about

Project 100 is a contemporary gallery and project space in Whakatū Nelson. Our goal is to excite viewers with diverse shows and add a layer of richness to the Nelson arts landscape, by offering our space to those who dance on the fringier side of their contemporary practice.

Project 100 exists to support emerging and established contemporary artists, practitioners and makers across all disciplines to present experimental monthly projects. We provide a beautiful, affordable and accessible pop-up gallery space in inner city Whakatū Nelson. Both funded and self-funded residencies are available.

Project 100

Alongside the gallery, the Project 100 building houses the Bench School for Jewellery, founded by contemporary jeweller Kay van Dyk, as well as private studios for working artists.

A former laundromat, our street presence is superb, with a full glass frontage facing an inner-city neighbourhood with great bars, eateries, stores and attractions. A stone's throw away, you’ll find Family Jewels Records, The Free House craft brewery, Kiln Pottery studio, Lee Woodman Studios, Viewfinder gallery, Eclectic Antique Centre, Arden and Urban eateries and an organics store. You get the picture?

Project 100 is easily accessible with free car parks right on our doorstep and Buxton Carpark at our rear.

JOIN OUR COMMUNITY

Project 100 is a different concept from traditional galleries. We give artists full autonomy over the space and we don’t take a commission on any works sold. Our affordable and accessible space is the perfect playground for emerging and established contemporary artists and makers to test the waters and present exciting monthly projects.

Want to support our mission? Join our small and enthusiastic team and enable emerging artists & arts practitioners to present work to the people of Whakatū. As a volunteer, you’ll be helping at events and holding down the gallery space from time to time, all the while connecting with the local arts scene as well as exhibiting artists from across the motu. You’ll also be first in the know about our special events, artist talks and other happenings!
